Overview

The 3 Days Murchison Falls Safari is our most frequently booked safari. Consequently, over the years, we have learned the needs of travellers to Uganda and acquired the necessary skills and resources needed to offer them an optimal safari experience.

Which, among others, includes having friendly and articulate drivers/guides with proficient knowledge of the park, disciplined enough to keep time and follow the schedule, regularly serviced vehicles, and finding the most suitable accommodation for our travellers.

All our price plans include accommodation, two game drives, a boat safari, round trip private transportation, park entry fees, and a visit to the Murchison Falls.

Make sure your safari is pleasant by booking this package. Let us save you the trouble of dealing with unprofessional and rude service providers so that you can spend your time and energy on the main reason you are visiting Uganda.

Itinerary

Day 1 : Travel to Murchison Falls and do an evening game drive

A Red Road Tours guide picks you up at 7 am from your accommodation in Kampala (If your location is out of Kampala, contact us, and we can arrange for a pick-up), then begin your 3 Days Murchison Falls Safari. Leave early to navigate the morning Kampala traffic, and have ample time in the park without feeling rushed.

It’s a 7-hour drive with time for a couple of rest stops, for a bathroom break, or getting coffee and snacks for the road. It’s essential to follow the schedule and keep time for your 3 Days Murchison Falls Safari to be a success.

One advantage of this 3 Days Murchison Falls Safari is that the drive is mostly on paved roads, with a few sections of dirt in between. The last hour of the drive is in the park, and it is common to find troops of baboons seated in the middle of the road sunbathing. On arrival at the lodge, have lunch and rest before heading out for an evening game drive. Return to your lodge at dusk for dinner and overnight rest.

The activity of the day:

Evening Game Drive

At 4 pm, head out for an evening game drive and enjoy a 3-hour wildlife viewing expedition. With the assistance of a game ranger, prowl the Murchison Falls National Park’s northern savannah plains in search of wildlife.

Since the park is so vast and the animals roam freely, unlike a zoo, there is no guarantee of seeing all the wildlife found in the park. However, it’s pretty common to spot giraffes, buffalos, antelopes like kobs, and Jackson Hartebeest, elephants, and even lions.

Day 2: Morning game drive and afternoon boat safari

Have breakfast at 5:30 am, and head out at 6 am for the morning game drive. Look out for the beautiful sunrise.

The activity of the day:

Morning Game Drive

It’s essential to make an early start because the best time to view animals is at daybreak when the temperatures are low. Once it gets scorching hot, animals hide in the shade and are harder to find.

The second drive of your 3 Days Murchison Falls Safari is geared towards finding animals you may not have seen on the previous game drive. The ranger is typically also on the lookout for wild cats, such as lions, leopards, and hyenas, since they tend to be active at this time. After the game drive, head back to the lodge for rest and lunch.

Afternoon Boat Safari on the Nile River

In the afternoon, head to the jetty at Paraa (the Nile river crossing point) for your boat safari. The boat safari operates in a modern motorized sightseeing boat led by a professional skipper and crew. The 3 hours long round trip safari is a slow cruise along the banks of the Nile River to get a close view of the wildlife.

This part of the Nile River, also known as the Victoria Nile, is home to hundreds of hippos and crocodiles. It also attracts numerous other wildlife such as elephants, buffalos, waterbucks, Uganda kobs, and innumerable species of birds.

The tour ends close to the base of the Murchison Falls, where you make a short stop to capture a few pictures of the falls before making a turn to head back to Paraa, and then to the lodge for dinner and rest.

Optional Evening Game Drive

If you are still eager to see more wildlife, as part of this 3 Days Murchison Falls Safari, we offer an optional third game drive immediately after the boat safari. Since wildlife is very unpredictable, each game drive is always different. You never know what wildlife spectacle you will find each time you head out for a ride.

You can use this game drive to focus on finding specific animals and enjoy watching them at your own pace without the need to hurry to see other wildlife.

Day 3: Visit the falls and head back to Kampala

After breakfast, set off at 9 am and head to the observation point at the top of the Murchison Falls. Witness the sheer power of the falls as the broad Nile river squeezes its way through a narrow cleft and pours down a 40m high ridge.

After having a few photo moments, embark on your journey back to Kampala or your preferred destination, marking the end of your 3 Days Murchison Falls Safari.

Available add-ons to your 3 Days Murchison Falls Safari

Rhino tracking – $50 per person

Approximately 3 hours from Kampala, there is a private reserve known as the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, specially set aside for the preservation of rhinos in Uganda. On the way for your 3 Days Murchison Falls Safari, you can make a 2 hour stop at the Sanctuary to track and see the rhinos.

Rhino Tracking involves a ranger who leads the way while walking through the bush in search of the rhinos. Once you locate the rhinos, you watch them for a maximum of an hour, before heading back to your car.

We highly recommend that you do this activity. However, if you do, we recommend that you leave Kampala at 5 am so that you arrive at the Sanctuary before 10 am, which is the time it gets too hot for the rhinos to continue grazing. It makes for much better viewing of the rhinos while they eat instead of finding them sleeping under a shade.

Chimp tracking – $100 per person

On the last day, on your way out of Murchison Falls National Park, you can stop at the Budongo Rainforest, located on the southern side of the park. The forest is home to chimpanzees and different species of primates.

The whole tracking experience takes about 3 to 4 hours, including hiking through the woods to find the chimps and observing them as they interact with each other.

Although finding Chimpanzees in Budongo forest is not always guaranteed, when you do find them, it can be such an exhilarating experience, especially if they are down on the forest floor away from the treetops. If you choose to do this activity, you need to set off from your lodge at 7 am because this activity is done at 9 am.
